Corrugated sheets are used as building materials. They get their name from the characteristic undulating structure from which they derive their strength. When they were introduced, they were often applied on barns, stables, (cow)sheds, industrial buildings, field sheds, etc. but also on small sheds behind houses.

Initially these sheets were asbestos cement sheets, also referred to as Eternit sheets, which were applied because of their wear-resistant, sturdy and water repellent qualities. Ever since the application of asbestos became forbidden, use was made of new technology in manufacturing corrugated sheets.

Corrugated sheets with asbestos can be recognised by the honeycomb structure on the underside of the sheet. Asbestos surveys usually demonstrate the presence of white asbestos, i.e. chrysotile, in these sheets, but sometimes they also contain a small percentage of blue asbestos, i.e. crocidolite.

Corrugated sheets overlap each other both lengthwise and crosswise.
To avoid the stacking of four sheets at each of the overlap crossings, use is made in the full roof surface of corrugated sheets with two cut-off corners. Corrugated sheets without cut-off corners are used for the roof ends. The position of the cut-off corner does not determine the manner of roofing.
